San Diego State's new head coach, Tavares Backwoods, kicked off his tenure in style, leading the Aztecs to an impressive 82-3 win over the South Dakota Jackrabbits in their season opener. This commanding victory not only showcased the team's potential but also set a high bar for the season ahead.

After the game, Backwoods shared his vision for the offense, saying, "We fixin' to run that Air Raid, ya feel me? We gon’ put our playmakers in positions to shine, keep the defense guessing, and let our guys do their thing."

Reflecting on his move from Texas State, Backwoods said, "Mane, leavin’ Texas was tough, no doubt. But San Diego? This place got that vibe, that energy. The fans are real passionate, and I see a lotta potential here. I’m just tryna build somethin’ special for the Aztecs."

When asked about the buzz around San Diego State possibly jumpin' to a new-look Pac-12, Backwoods kept it cool: "Look, we stayin’ focused on this season right now. If those opportunities come up, we’ll check ‘em out. But for now, it’s all about winning and developin' our squad."

With a strong start and a clear vision, Coach Backwoods is ready to lead the Aztecs into a promising season filled with potential.
